Introduction organization
Hogeschool Leiden (Leiden University of Applied Sciences) is a dynamic institution for higher professional education in the Netherlands. Known for its strong emphasis on practical learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and societal relevance, the university equips students and professionals to make a real-world impact across various fields, including healthcare, IT, law, education, and business.
The university fosters innovation through close ties with local partners, including the Municipality of Leiden, LUMC, and cultural institutions such as Naturalis. Through its applied research centers and project-based education, Hogeschool Leiden plays a vital role in shaping future-proof solutions for today’s complex challenges.
The essence of the project
Interim support to the Director of Facility Management & Housing (FB&H) and Business Control, I provided tactical and strategic assistance across a wide range of internal challenges, including team coordination, stakeholder communication, HR transitions, procurement alignment, and executive-level reporting.
Impact
By structuring communication flows, improving documentation standards, and proactively anticipating stakeholder needs, I helped ensure continuity and clarity during a period of organizational transition and strategic planning. My involvement enabled the Director and management team to make well-informed decisions based on dependable input.
Skills & Expertise Gained
✔ Supported the FB&H Director with high-level agenda management, project tracking, preparation for MT and board-level meetings, and HR
✔ Coordinated multi-stakeholder meetings (internal + external), including the Municipality of Leiden and key service providers
✔ Drafted detailed minutes, summaries, and strategic documentation
✔ Campus development and sustainability initiatives
✔ Catering and service evaluations (Compass Group / Eurest
✔ Strategic housing plans and SMT (Service Management Tool) implementation
✔ Monitored timelines, delegated follow-ups, and ensured alignment between facility, HR, and IT teams

In his role within the steering group, he demonstrated clarity, structure, and insight into complex project frameworks. He was able to quickly grasp the content and manage a high volume of tasks effectively.
Rowin has a friendly and open working attitude. He shows commitment and is visibly willing to contribute ideas. His working style fits well within the culture of FB&H.
Future and recommendations
I wholeheartedly recommend Rowin for future assignments. His independent working style, reliability, and clear communication make him an enjoyable colleague to work with. He quickly understands complex organizational structures and knows what is needed to support a service like FB&H effectively. I would not hesitate to work with him again.
